Support nightly builds in addition to normal, continuous builds

I'll just give a brief overview of our scenario, which isn't probably that uncommon. We have a large software project, which uses many technologies. Rails drives the whole system through a web server application. The build rule first runs lots of tests, and if the tests pass, all the binary executables are compiled, and finally, several compressed installation packages are created. The last phase is one of the longest, because each compressed installation package is over 500 MB large. Now, for testing and stuff, we use only the first package created. The other packages are needed only when we ship the product or go through site or factory acceptance testing. So, if the build system could automatically run some configured task only once per day, it'd be much faster to run through common builds - something like 40 minutes instead of one hour and a half. Of course there are other means of achieving the same result, but so far none of the options I see are not that good.
